Count me as someone that likes Warren a lot but is deathly afraid of her winning the nomination and being painted as a socialist and somehow losing to this fucking crackpot bag of shit. I definitely count her among the three or four best candidates in terms of actually being qualified and of the right mindset to be president. The good news, however, is that I'm beginning to see polling showing her beating Trump nationally by 6-9% and growing. That's quite a bit. I'd say that to be in safe range, she or any Dem would need about a 5% popular edge to be sure that they get an electoral college advantage. I expect for there to be a push to paint her as a socialist and that might lose some voters, but I also believe that her popularity is growing and that some of that "socialist" loss will be gained back by people being impressed by her positivity, work ethic, and intelligence. Folks can worry about her wanting single payer, but she's not going to ever be able to push that through. That's just her ideology. she'll never have enough of a congressional edge to get this accomplished, so I don't really understand the concerns on this front. She'll make some exec orders, but so do they all. Surely, she'll undo some of Trump's orders and probably lighten up on the torturous and idiotic border treatment of refugees as if they're criminals. Bare minimum, I look at Warren or Pete or Harris and I see the right state of mind and temperament for the presidency. Serious, smart, caring and thoughtful, while all being tough people.
If looking at this from a purely political standpoint, rather than right vs. wrong standpoint, would a liberal want to face Trump next fall, or Pence, if Pence were to be seated in office after the GOP were to hypothetically dump Trump? Does Pence have anything approaching the kind of personality that would bring out voters? He doesn't seem very well liked.
Saw someone suggesting yesterday that Trump might like to see Pence impeached concurrently with Trump, because no way would GOP dump both of them and have Pelosi as president...i.e. perhaps Trump would see a Pence impeachment as insurance against a Trump conviction.
