Thanks to Donald J. Trump and the Banana Republic he has established, I will be sitting out of the primaries next month. I may even refuse to vote in the general election. This nation has become a shell of what it once was. My only hope is that he chokes on a Big Mac.

You don't vote against him, you vote for him .. not hard to figure that out.
For once in your life, vote democratic for the good of the country and get him the hell out of there.   In four years, you can go back vote republican again. You don't help vote him out, and you will never vote again b/c from here on in, the only candidate your side is going to run, is a trump clone.

If Trump wins it's a safe bet his son will be the GOP nominee in 2024.  Even if he loses, his son will be the nominee.  Kevin, your party has left your ass in the fucking dust.  Nobody's saying you need to be a Dem.  But you need to be the party that is the opposite of this guy and this ideology, until this ideology is in the same dustbin as Nazi'ism and a few other shitty ideologies.  Be a temporary Dem and just bite the bullet on the abortion issue because the political backbone of this country is beginning to fall apart brick by brick.  It's not happening overnight and I'm not saying that in a month we'll not be a democracy, but we're slowly watching our norms crumble and go away.  If nothing else, I'm hoping enough conservatives would temporarily join the left until there is a push for an intermediary party that would be the normal conservatives, so that the Trumpers become a party that's generally laughed at like the KKK is laughed at.

It doesn't matter. Illinois is solidly blue. My vote matters not in the Electoral College system.

I'll say this about the abortion issue. At least Amy Klobuchar is publicly welcoming pro-life Democrats, whereas other candidates and bigwigs in the party are saying that there is no room for them in the Democratic party. I could definitely vote for her in the general election.

(And many of us know that Donald Trump is about as pro-life as Jack Kevorkian. He says what one issue voter pro-lifers want to hear, yet continues to fund Planned Parenthood at the same levels as in the Obama administration. But they ignore that.

Tim Kaine is pro-life, so clearly there's room in the party, but I think what one's positions are on life are more readily accepted/rejected based on the people in the room.  There's nothing women love more than a couple hundred wealthy white male Republicans setting policy about abortion.

Republicans give all kinds of money to Israel, where the government funds abortion, so it appears that they pick and choose which abortion providers that they'll give our tax dollars.   Planned Parenthood's services...especially for the poor...save lives.

On another note, I heard that some pastor from a school is requesting that they be warned before Mayor Pete is on TV.  Because we need to protect children from a Christian veteran rhodes scholar.

Until her campaign folds or it actually snares the nomination...I'm now officially on record for supporting Amy. I've always considered myself a moderate who's slightly left of center. She fits. Pete does too for that matter but, like in baseball, he needs more "seasoning".

It's starting to look like we best come to grips with the notion of Sanders as the Dem nominee.  This is obviously very concerning, as you're going to lose several million Dem votes either to Trump or just not showing up due to concerns about "socialism."  I think our only hope is that this generates vast interest and engagement in the younger voters 18-35 and causes massive turnout to make up for the lost moderate voters.  It's hard for me to see a clear scenario where Sanders wins, but I'm hoping the turnout is enough to hold the House or gain a seat or two in the Senate.

This is the guy that the young voters seem to really want.  They better fucking show up on election day.

I agree he'll accomplish nothing objective, but one positive will be that he's actually very good at articulating why we ought to be trying to have single payer, and articulating how it's plausible.  He won't make it happen, but he'll get people talking about the math and why it's worth thinking about, and that's worth something.  If nothing else, he's opening the door for future talk and eventual legislation.  Someone's gotta be the radical that gets it on the radar.

Trump wants to run against Bernie Sanders so badly it makes his little dick hard. Democrats playing right into his hands and too stupid to see it. They deserve what they get. This will be nothing more than Eugene McCarthy all over again. No way in hell that any republicans that would potentially cast a vote against Trump are gonna vote for Sanders.

Many Republicans are saying just that. Sanders is the opposite side of the same coin as Trump. He is a cult leader and represents the extreme wing of his adopted party. I don't like the direction this country is headed. Fuck Sanders! Fuck Cortez! Fuck Trump! Fuck Jordan!

Sanders isn't my first, second or even my third choice, but I'm trying to see the positive, which is that he'll get people speaking, debating, analyzing, and pondering universal/single payer healthcare.  It's going to happen here.  It needs to happen.  At the very least, this gets the merry go round on this topic to begin spinning.  Even if he's elected, he'll not make it happen, but the door is opening.  The conversations are starting.  And of all people, Sanders is decent at articulating why we ought to be thinking about it.  He's better at it than Warren or anyone else I've heard.  There is going to be a large movement in this general direction.  Looks to me like that movement begins soon.

Once he loses this election nobody will be talking about any of this shit. You really believe ANY candidate, after seeing Sanders go down in a ball of flames, will run on anything close to what he was running on, or talking about?  If trump wins this election, I seriously doubt this country ever has another election as we have known them for the past 250 yrs - I think trump, should he live another 4 years, will just give the presidency to whoever he wants - Jared, or trump Jr , or whoever he chooses, and with the GOP firmly in control of the House and Senate, they will pass any bill that takes - and fuck an amendment, the GOP run SCOTUS will say its all constitutional.   And guess what else happens when the House and the senate are GOP and trump is president - all of your civil rights are eaten away, The Supreme Court is radical right for generations - so there goes your "talking points" - they will all be deemed unconstitutional - which by the way, will be radically changed to reflect the new norm - no elections, no taxes on the rich, no public schools, Medicare will be GONE, Social Security GONE, lets repeal the 4th amendment while we are at it..   but yea, its all gonna be worth it because for six months Sanders can talk about what he thinks he wants ..

BTW - this fucker is an independent .. why is he even ALLOWED to run as a democrat ?

I have a theory that Trump will try to force Pence from the vice presidency and attempt to install either Don Don or his girlfriend Ivanka as vice president, then toward the end of his second term (if he gets elected), he will step down. The cult members will vote for anyone named Trump, and there are members of the Senate who will go along with his scheme for fear of Dr. Josef Hannity and Fox News.

Tim, there will always be a candidate running in Dem primaries that is pro-single payer healthcare and free college.  There'll always be that farthest left candidate.  And as younger folks become eligible to vote and older/conservative folks continue dying off, we'll continue moving more toward a progressive electorate that wants single payer and free college.  I realize this stuff is currently a major pipedream, but folks under 40 aren't afraid of it and they aren't worried it'll mean we're socialist because they aren't afraid of that word.  If Sanders wins the nomination, people of his ilk will be emboldened into believing now all I have to do is get all of the people that support that agenda to actually show up and vote, rather than sitting in their parents' basements.  Sanders getting his ass kicked by Trump won't scare the far lefters away because each year the far left agenda becomes within closer reach.  Eventually a candidate like him will win, and I'm not convinced it won't be Bernie.  Bernie's chances depend wholly on whether he can inspire the people that are unlikely to show up to actually get off their asses and show up on election day.  Not sure I like his chances, but I also don't rule out his chances.  We should have learned about dismissing idiotic candidacies in 2016 when an idiot and his idiotic candidacy won the presidency.

I'm not arguing against the things about which you're warning us about Medicare and SS and the 4th amendment.  You're making serious points that seemed perhaps a bit of a stretch years ago but seem each day now to be a little more on point.

You're making serious points that seemed perhaps a bit of a stretch years ago but seem each day now to be a little more on point.

That's 'cuz y'all were too busy blowing off the things Tim and I said as hyperbole. How's that working out for you now? And oh yeah...in college I minored in psychology and took several courses in political science. I've never expressed opinions just to hear my head rattle.

I don't recall making any such comments but perhaps my memory is lacking. I recall worrying about the same things, but feared I was being overreactive.

It wasn't just directed at you Rob. It's just that Tim and I saw a lot of this shit coming down the pike years ago. For me the beginning was with the tea baggers. While Rosebowl was busy blowing them off, I saw the likes of them and Kark slowly capturing the soul of the GOP because so much blatant lying and crazy theories were being thrown out there and given credibility by Fox News and right wing radio.

    End result? Hello President Trump!
