It sure seems like they are. The Dodgers can't even trust Scherzer to get through the fifth inning. Either they change the rules or we have seen the end of the 20 game winner. The Dodgers threw NINE pitchers in last night's game. NINE! I didn't stay up to watch the whole game, but either they have like a 15 man bullpen or a starter was used in relief.

We watched a lot of this during the 2021 season.  How many games did we see where the Sox starter came out after 5 innings with 83 pitches thrown?  It's no wonder the starters had such low win totals.  When you hand 4 innings to the relievers to hold your lead, you're leaving a lot of your success open to randomness.

And on the Score yesterday was Juan Marichal's 84th birthday and they commemorated the 16 inning shut out he pitched with Warren Spahn-won 1-0 on a Mays homer. Both pitched the whole game.
Marichal threw 227  pitches and Spahn 201 !!!

And in today's games, pitchers with no-hitters are being taken out of the game because of pitch counts.

Twenty years ago, a pitcher would punch his manager in the face on the mound for trying to take him out of the game with a no-hitter.
