When you steal a supreme court seat, and the court says you can legally deny gay people a cake, you don't get to eat at any democratically owned establishment. Sorry Homeland Security babe. No tamales for you! Sorry Sarah...eat somewhere else. And no, racist daddy Huckabee...you can't call these owners haters. Just standing up for their beliefs. You support that, remember?

They have a right to deny service, but I wonder if they realize how this kind of action can spur right wing activism. I'd have just served her and then hand her the bill and ask her how she sleeps at night.

Yeah, because "when they go low, we go high" works so well. The homophobic bakers don't hand the gay couple a cake with a note on the receipt saying that they'll burn in hell for their lifestyle...they refuse to bake the cake.

Ahhh...finally a sign of life on this board! You sure we aren't related?
Rob....diplomacy doesn't work with these clowns and as much as I like Michelle Obama...she's wrong on this. It's way past time for democrats and progressives to grow a pair and start kicking back. It's the only language these loud-mouth lying racist assholes understand. Let's see how tough they REALLY are. As far as I'm concerned, the democrats had better start looking for leadership beyond Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton and that pussy Chuck Schumer. This nation has fallen hostage to a bunch of fucking knuckle draggers. Rest assured they laugh at this notion of going high. Plays right into their hands.

To be clear, I don't think we should go as low as Trump or Republicans go in all cases. I wouldn't suggest giving out opponents' cell phone numbers or calling people ugly. I don't think Obama gets elected if he makes the cracks about McCain and Mittens that Trump did. The high ground worked for him. He engaged with hecklers. When people boo'd his opponents, he said "don't boo. Vote"...while Republicans tried to get their crowd to boo louder. But it's a different time. Kick their asses out of our restaurants and get congress back. Then we can go back to being the last hope of this nation in 2020.

I don't really disagree with you or Blondy here at all, Cream. I'm not thinking of my serving her as being diplomatic. I think it's more about my not wanting to fire up the opposition with anything that will be bulletin board material. You are 100% right. They are racist, lying, inhumane assholes. They are vile. That bitch deserves what she gets. She was just on TV touting the SCOTUS ruling a week ago about a business having the right to assert its religious freedom. Hey, the owner of the restaurant's religion is to not serve a disgusting, lying asshole.
So I'm not suggesting going high so much as picking and choosing my moments. As far as I'm concerned, today's ruling is a byproduct of a stolen seat and I'll not rest until that seat is stolen back however it has to be done. I read an article suggesting that if the Dems were to gain enough control, the president can just appoint a couple of more SCOTUS seats. It's not written in stone that it's 9 justices. For a while, Ted Cruz was suggesting that they could leave it a court of 8 or even 7 for an extended period because it's not a mandate for 9 members. As far as I understand, there's nothing saying that the Dems can't get a majority and bump the court up to 11 from 9 and create their own stolen majority. Fair is fair. If it ain't illegal, then it's legal.

I'll say this much...if kicking these disgusting mother fuckers out of restaurants would rally the dead-assed Dem base to get off their asses and vote, then I'd say go ahead and start banning the shitheads from everywhere. My fear, however, is that it'll just rally the GOP and not the near-dead Dem base to vote.
I'll also say this much....we are underestimating the willingness of the younger half of American society to embrace socialism. Not saying the Dem party needs to go full socialist...saying that there is a much bigger appetite for a policy of free college, universal healthcare, paid family leave, higher minimum wages and higher taxes on the rich than Dems think. If they make that their platform, I'm not saying it would be a big winner, yet. But there is an appetite for it, and perhaps that's the way to excite the younger voters who have thus far sat around and watched from the sidelines.

Yeah, but here's the thing. The Republicans don't think like that. They're not afraid of that because they always find a way to turn it around. Strong and wrong.

FDR tried this in 1934 to push his New Deal thru bc the GOP was calling the plan unconstitutional. He was prevented from doing so. Times were different back then, but I would hope Roberts, Kennedy and maybe the new guy would have enough morals to prevent this.

My point exactly. The truly socialist folks I know tend to steer clear of the fray and not seem very engaged, maybe because the mainstream debates don't seem to really include their platform.

Rob, I strongly suggest you read a superb column I read in today's Tribune written by Eric Zorn called "The Case Against Civility in the Battle Against Trump". States my case for standing up and kicking back at these fucking assholes better than I ever could and addresses this topic perfectly. Calls Democrats who act half afraid of these idiots "Chamberlain Liberals" whose preference towards appeasement and peaceful well-reasoned solutions plays right into the far right's hand. Makes the accurate claim that the Republican party is now the party of the tea-bagger movement that started around 2009 and compromise and reason simply doesn't work with this crowd. They practice sledgehammer politics...and they are winning. The left needs to get its mojo back and stop fucking apologizing for everything. Forget civility...this country is in danger and it's time to fight back. Hey, I told ya all years ago these days were coming.
A few weeks ago I took Samantha Bee to task for calling Ivanka Trump a feckless cunt. Sometimes you just gotta own up to when you were wrong...and I was wrong. Upon thinking about it I now defend Bee and her comments and I think it's about time the left comes out swinging. It's the only language Trump's crew understands and that includes Ivanka...the feckless cunt

Just read it. Couldn't agree more, although not sure I agree with the part about going to their homes. Or at the very least, I'd have to give it serious thought. Just across Roselle Road from my house is Inverness, and there's a doctor who lives there who apparently is an abortion provider. The right to lifers used to do weekend protests in front of his house, with dead baby signs and all, and they very proudly put pictures of them protesting outside the man's house while his two young sons played basketball in their driveway. If those people can chant horrible things about this doctor, while carrying signs with dead fetuses, all for kids under 10 to see, then Kristjen's house is fair game.

BUT, i do disagree in another part. There is no way to "get" or convince the basic Trumper. They will be with him no matter what he does and says. But when liberals get nasty (God forbid, listen to Maxine Waters) they turn off the people on the sidelines-and we need EVERYONE of those people to get out and vote!
You cant have them thinking "one side is just as bad as the other-I'll just sit out again" Their revulsion at Trump's acts and words is what we need to assure a non Trump vote.

Cerabino: Mar-a-Lago comes to mind as Trump blasts Virginia restaurant
LOCAL
By Frank Cerabino - Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
Pesident Donald Trump’s words have invited a comparison between his Palm Beach private club and a small restaurant in rural Virginia.
Trump probably wasn’t thinking of the big picture. As usual, he was in retaliatory Twitter mode on Monday morning when he took on the Red Hen, a 26-seat restaurant in the Shenandoah Valley, because the restaurant owner there refused to serve his press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, when she showed up unannounced for dinner over the weekend.
“I’m not a huge fan of confrontation,” restaurant owner Stephanie Wilkinson later explained to The Washington Post. “I have a business, and I want the business to thrive.”
But her staff said they didn’t want to serve Sanders because she advocated positions they found indefensible. So Wilkinson decided to tell Sanders that the restaurant wouldn’t serve her.
“This feels like the moment in our democracy when people have to make uncomfortable actions and decisions to uphold their morals,” Wilkinson explained
This denial of service turned into a heated debate on social media, and Trump joined in on Monday.
“The Red Hen Restaurant should focus more on cleaning its filthy canopies, doors and windows (badly needs a paint job) rather than refusing to serve a fine person like Sarah Huckabee Sanders.” Trump tweeted. “I always had a rule, if a restaurant is dirty on the outside, it is dirty on the inside!”
American presidents don’t usually single out small private business for a cleanliness attack, especially one with no violations from its latest state health inspection in February.
And especially a president whose own Palm Beach private club has a well-documented history of health inspection issues.
Like I said, Trump probably wasn’t thinking.
So it’s time for a little Red Hen vs. Mar-a-Lago comparisons:
Number of health inspection flaws over past three years:
Red Hen: 1
Mar-a-Lago: 78
What state health inspectors found
Red Hen: “Observed pickles/jams in a hermetically sealed container is not from an approved processing plant. Operator stated that jars were for decorative use only. Operator will take jars home.”
Mar-a-Lago: “Accumulation of black/green mold-like substance” in ice machine; dirty cutting boards; hot dogs stored on the floor of walk-in freezer. “Hot water not provided/shut off at employee handwash sink.”
*
Pats on the back from health inspectors?
Red Hen: “Observed good food/unit temperatures. Staff had clean uniforms/aprons and line cook had hair restrained. Excellent job code-dating.”
Mar-a-Lago:“Violations require further review, but are not an immediate threat to the public.”
*
Try the fish?
Red Hen: The trout is served with parsnip puree, Swiss chard and heirloom tomatoes.
Mar-a-Lago: The salmon is no longer served without undergoing “proper parasite destruction.”
*
Operating philosophy
Red Hen: Farm to table.
Mar-a-Lago: Access to president.
*
Pricey items to consider
Red Hen: Pan seared pork chops with cheese grits and caramelized onions entree — $28.
Mar-a-Lago: Initiation fee — $200,000.
*
The labor force
Red Hen: Locals from a town of about 7,000 people.
Mar-a-Lago: Foreign workers imported under the H2B temporary worker visa program.
*
Owner’s view on handling unwanted arrivals
Red Hen: “I explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty, and compassion, and cooperation,” Wilkinson said she told Sanders. “I said, ‘I’d like to ask you to leave.’”
Mar-a-Lago: “We cannot allow all of these people to invade our Country,” Trump tweeted Sunday. “When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no Judges or Court Cases, bring them back from where they came.”

Re: Karma
Sharpy, FDR tried increasing it to 15. I believe that if Trump gets this pick onto the court (he will) and IF 2020 brings us a Dem prez and Dem Senate, you will see it at least attempted, i.e. change the court to 11. Not saying it's right or fair, but if they think it's legal and are committing to fighting dirty if necessary, then why would they not try it? There are no rules anymore. There is no courtesy. There is only a thirst for power and political victory. We have learned that there are few consequences for cutthroat politics. Shit, folks appear to admire it, if anything.

Not having a message and whining is what resulted in Republicans gaining all those seats...unless "Obama wasn't born here" is a message.

I don't believe anyone is whining about this. I'm just discussing what I've heard. I did my whining about McConnell's handling of the Garland nomination probably two years ago. Now I want to see the Dems reverse that by any legal means necessary. That's not whining in my world.

If he's whining, then you're whining about his whining.
Incidentally, I've been calling for the elimination of the largest increase in the size of government, the Department of Homeland Security, since its inception. We don't need to just get rid of ICE....we need to get rid of the whole damned thing, which was pretty much created so Tommy Thompson could head it up and try to deliver Wisconsin for Bush in the next election.
