It may not play big with the major networks but the Houston/Washington match-up would be a great world series. Especially if the Astros take game 5 and don't have to use Cole in game 6.

Damn. Hopefully the Stros can get to Paxton. He was good in Seattle but never had to really pitch in a big game. Center stage in the big Apple against a solid and seasoned line-up may rattle him a bit.

I'm liking the match up! Two teams that (hopefully) won't do a "bullpen game".

I love everything about this series. On the very last day of the season I jumped on Washington's bandwagon. Looking forward to this.

Everyone seems to be all hyped up about the Astro's rotation, but seem to be underestimating the Nats rotation - if Schwerzer and Strausberg are on the first 2 games, 'Stros might be in trouble

That was my thought too. I'm surprised the odds-makers are so heavily favoring the Astros. Scherzer and Strasberg and a rainout could be all they need.sharpy wrote:Everyone seems to be all hyped up about the Astro's rotation, but seem to be underestimating the Nats rotation - if Schwerzer and Strausberg are on the first 2 games, 'Stros might be in trouble
Some dream match-ups:
Game 1 Cole-Scherzer
Game 2 Verlander-Strasberg.

Reading about matchup this morning- a lot of old guys.jaywit wrote:That was my thought too. I'm surprised the odds-makers are so heavily favoring the Astros. Also, something I've never heard before. Commenting on Verlander being very close to winning Cy Young in 2016. Turns out two writers left him completely off their ballots. Apparently, Verlander a little curmudgeonly- had thrown one writer out (don't know if it was one of those who refused to vote for him.
His then fiancee (now wife) Kate Upton said " I thought I was the only one allowed to F--- Justin Verlander!"
Outstanding remark!

Cole and Verlander looked downright human in the last two outings. Scherzer has not been particularly good in the playoffs (this is strictly based on my recollection...his stats may prove me a liar)...kinda reminds me of Kershaw in the playoffs. Granted, in the playoffs you're facing the best teams, so you might expect a bit of a drop off...not to mention the "short rest" situations and maybe using starters in relief. That being said, if the matchups for games 1 and 2 are set, does this series fall on the 3 and 4? Sanchez was ridiculous against the Cards...a team that seems to have a great hitter at every position. The Nats shut that team down!

Predictions anyone? Do Astros make a series of this, or are they toast?

Nats are on a roll. The momentum continues, unfortunately. I say 5 games.

He's about 6 months younger than my kids. They have a couple impressive young players.
If they win the WS, I assume Bryce Harper will roll around in his money to make himself feel better.

The Nats are on a roll like the 2005 Sox were.

I thought the same thing. Momentum in baseball is a real thing and it's going to take a huge gem from Greinke to stop the Nats train.alohafri wrote:jaywit wrote:Nats are on a roll. The momentum continues, unfortunately. I say 5 games.

Agree and clearly shows that the old way of playing baseball is the right way. Smoltz said many times in the series that these 2 teams lead their leagues in "putting the ball in play". Not striking out ..no all home runs ..putting the ball in play ..
