Now that Pence is beginning to be implicated in the Trump/Ukraine disaster, here is what I think could happen.
GOP cannot and will not allow the 1% possibility of ten tons of shit to come down on the two of Trump/Pence at the same time. That's in order to ensure there isn't a sudden need for a double resignation and Pelosi presidency (oh, that would be so delicious!).
Since they can't afford even a hint of that possibly being able to happen, they need to probably get Pence out of office asap. He might have to fall on the sword and do it soon, so that they can move someone into that spot (probably Nikki Haley) so that if Trump goes down, Haley slides into the presidency and is a solid threat to be reelected. If they do this and Trump stays in office, Trump is probably more electable with a VP Haley than with a VP Pence.
I'm just saying if the frying pan gets hot under Pence, watch for him to dive out of the VP spot fairly suddenly and try taking some kind of blame so that they can put someone safe into the VP chair for if Trump has to leave.
