    Polarization Empty Polarization

Post by alohafri Fri Jul 07, 2017 6:18 pm

Just to demonstrate how polarized this country has become, many people who claim they want to cut down on government intrusion on their lives are actually in FAVOR of the states sending their voting information to the Federal government. Those who are generally in favor of allowing government intrusion are AGAINST the states sending their voting information to the Federal government.

If this was Obama instead of Trump, the roles would be reversed.

    Gee, ya think?

This voter commission is a ruse to make it ultimately harder to register to vote, and harder to vote.  If they cared about a better voting system, they'd be doing something that makes it both easier to vote, and reduces the ability to commit voter identity fraud, which appears to be a non-issue anyway.  they ought to be creating a national system that issues voter IDs free at Walgreens, or the local library, or DMV, and they ought to be providing more voting machines in urban areas, where the lines get so long, and more locations for voting in rural areas.  Of course, if they did that, more people would vote, and that's not the goal of the Chris Kobach commission.

I would say that the flaw in this argument is that the description of left leaning folks as those "in favor of allowing government intrusion" is how those with opposing views would describe us, but it's not how we would describe our beliefs.  I know of nobody with my ideology who would list our belief system as being "in favor of government intrusion".  That phrase is very Frank Luntz-esque.  I would think it plays well on the right.

Remember, I'm not a lefty. Smile I'm leaning more and more independent. I reserve the right to word things in any way I want and to point out issues I have with both parties.

I'd have an easier time accepting this if included in this "investigation" was a look into Bolshevik meddling. Of course, we all know this is about soothing Trump's fragile self-image and the fact that he didn't win the popular vote (which he needs to be reminded, doesn't elect the office anyway).

I think it's partially about ego, but I also think it's about diversion (look, over here, a big shiny object...look away from Russia) and it's a racist dog whistle...and probably a host of other things that I can't even think of.

Kobach, the guy running this thing, is notorious for trying to make voting harder for minorities all over the country via voter purges for those with repeat names such as Joseph Brown or John Washington, whereby there are legitimately several voters with those names.  His Crosscheck voter purge took place over the year leading up to the last election and forced many (some estimates are up near a million) voters filling out a provisional ballot that never was counted.

Kobach is 0 for 4 in having his policies get through the Supreme Court.  They keep overturning his bullshit, thankfully.  But that might change now, or if Trump puts another guy in there.
