Saw one of Greg's last shows last June at Elkhart's Lerner Theater. Snatched up a single seat front row center. Great show but Gregg was looking very frail and was obviously not well. Wasn't long after that he cancelled the rest of the tour.

Oh yeah...wasn't a country song to be heard when I saw Gregg. His thing was always more into soul, jazz and blues. The country element was what Dickey Betts brought to the band and Allman and Betts had fallen out years ago.

As an aside, my friend in HS and college was a big Allman Bros fans, and he was all excited when Dickey Betts released his first solo album, figuring it would be like a great spin-off album - turned out it was all country music and he couldn't say how much it sucked over and over again

I find myself listening to more country over the past few years....and liking it. I haven't turned my back on rock'n'roll...I just feel like, except for a few exceptions, it's turned its back on me. All you hear being played on the radio and almost every store you walk into anymore is rap, hip-hop and pre-packaged pop as sung by the 15 year old flavor of the moment. Jesus Christ I hate all that fucking shit!!! At least with country I can hear a melody and sometimes even guitar playing worthy of any rock concert. I grew up in a household where the likes of Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Johnny Horton and the rock-a-billy sounds of the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly filled our home. I look back with fondness at a lot of that music and even though my tastes changed as I got older I never forgot those roots I was brought up with.
