Thanks! She had a nice first competition. She made the finals, ended up taking 4th overall. I'm still getting used to how they do the scoring. They rank the kids (as I said "it's like Best In Show"). Of the three judges, one of them did rank her first, the other two ranked her 3 and 4. My son Jake is actually on the speech team as well. He took second. He actually tied for first in ranking, then they go to "speaker points" if there's a tie. I'm not sure what that involves, but the girl who took first had more speaker points. My kids said she was terrible and deserved to get last and they were shocked that she took first. Not a single judge ranked her first. Gab got a first place rank by one judge, Jake by another, and their teammate who took third got another. So none of these judges thought the girl who won was the best, yet she took first.
Their next competition is this weekend....a two-day competition on Friday and Saturday. Gab's a former athlete, but the stamina involved to be on speech team far surpasses what was required of her as an athlete. It's exhausting.
