    My daughter

No, she's not a porn actress, but I figured what better place to post a link of her speech about objectification of women.  I know most of you won't watch (and it's only half a speech...my phone stopped recording), but it's actually pretty funny.  She's competing in Speech to Entertain.  Her topic?  Breast reductions.  And right there near the end she gets in a jab at Bill O'Reilly.

I love her. Nice job. Nice public speaking cadence, and she will only get better. I wonder where she gets all that sassiness?

Thanks!  She had a nice first competition.  She made the finals, ended up taking 4th overall.  I'm still getting used to how they do the scoring.  They rank the kids (as I said "it's like Best In Show").  Of the three judges, one of them did rank her first, the other two ranked her 3 and 4.  My son Jake is actually on the speech team as well.  He took second.  He actually tied for first in ranking, then they go to "speaker points" if there's a tie.  I'm not sure what that involves, but the girl who took first had more speaker points.  My kids said she was terrible and deserved to get last and they were shocked that she took first.  Not a single judge ranked her first.  Gab got a first place rank by one judge, Jake by another, and their teammate who took third got another.  So none of these judges thought the girl who won was the best, yet she took first.

Their next competition is this weekend....a two-day competition on Friday and Saturday.  Gab's a former athlete, but the stamina involved to be on speech team far surpasses what was required of her as an athlete.  It's exhausting.

All of that work will be worth it.  As we should all well know by now, communications skills can and will get you a hell of a lot further in life than most other skills.  My boys can't understand why I tell them Speech will be their most important subject.

Gab has turned into quite the speech/debate phenom.  I was supposed to be a judge at the debate competition last Friday.  They assigned me the finals thinking she wouldn't advance that far in her first debate.  Well, I didn't have to judge...she made the finals.  So at least I got to watch her in her final debate (it's not a spectator sport, but since I was there to judge originally I got to stay).  She held her own against a kid who's the best debater and who's a senior at a 4-year college.  Her coach approached me and he's comparing her to the Harper student who holds all forensics records for the school.

That's awesome.  Maybe you ought to get her on here to argue with us a bit.  That kind of ability is huge for women in the business world.  it's somewhat patronizing to say, but I've seen many companies that really are dying for women that are assertive and confident.

Rob, do you really think it's a good idea to subject this fine young lady to the alcohol fueled ramblings of this unwashed, disgusting, urine-soaked collection of scallywags and reprobates???

Well, without Kark, there's definitely much less urine.
